Beloved Helper,
You are so gifted.
You have overcome so much already, and you’ve inspired and guided countless others along the way.
Self-criticism
You carry a divine assignment: to share your Soul’s unique medicine.
It’s not only what fulfills you most deeply—it’s also the path to creating your greatest impact.
But there’s one sneaky obstacle that holds so many of us helpers back: the addiction to
self-criticism.
Self-criticism is an aspect of the Martyr Helper Identity—the part of you that serves from sacrifice, struggle, and self-doubt.
To step into your Sovereign Helper Self—the version of you that creates impact with clarity, ease, and well-being—it’s essential to heal this pattern.
This is something I often help
my clients with, because it’s one of the biggest shifts that opens the door to their next level of leadership.
Want to know if this shows up for you?
Try this simple test:
Commit to going one day without criticizing yourself.
That means no “What’s wrong with
me?” no “I should be further along,” no comparisons with others.
If that feels easy, beautiful—you’re free of this cycle.
But if self-judgment creeps in multiple times a day (or even an hour), then you’ve likely developed a habit—an addiction—of criticizing yourself.
Like all addictions, it masks a deeper wound.
For helpers, this often shows up as the wound of unworthiness—of not being good enough, lovable enough, or of being “too much.”
And there’s a reason for this.
Helpers carry a Soul contract.
Before you came into this life, you agreed to serve humanity in your own unique way.
Part of your training included walking through the sting of unworthiness, so that you could rise above it—and then guide others through their own healing, either directly through your work, or simply through how you live your life.
If you still notice self-criticism daily, it’s not a sign of failure. It’s simply an invitation for more compassion.
Compassion is the sacred
ingredient that alchemizes wounds into wisdom—your Soul’s nectar, the medicine the world needs from you.
Here's a practice to begin healing the addiction of self-criticism:
1. Set your intention.
Say: “Dear Soul, I intend to heal this addiction of self-criticism.”
2. Call on your Soul as your sacred sponsor.
When you notice self-criticism arise, pause and whisper:
“Beautiful Soul, I’m slipping into self-criticism—help me.”
3. Rewire with compassion.
Keep a list of empowering self-talk and use it throughout your day.
For example:
“I’m so proud of myself.”
“I’ve learned so much.”
“I’m courageous, wise, and strong.”
“I really appreciate ___ about myself.”
This
is how you begin to free yourself from the weight of self-criticism and step into your Sovereign Helper Self—the version of you who leads, serves, and creates with more clarity, impact, and ease—without burnout.
With love,
Lisa
